Some Rules
A. Vowels 1. All the syllables have at least one vowel. Uva= u+va. 2. Diphthongs are not separable, as they are seen as a vowel. 3. Combinations “qu” and “gu” are not separable from the vowel sound that is after them. a. Paquete pa+que+te 4. Gaps (ea eo ia ie io oa oe ua ue ui uo ) are not separable, when part of the last syllable. a. Cutâneo: cu +ta+neo 5. Gaps and vowel pairs aa ee ii oo uu are separated into two different syllables” Veado= ve+a+do Feriado= fe+ri+a+do Voo= Vo+o B. Consonants Consonants b, c, d, f, g, p, t, v followed by l or r are not separable. bru.to; cra.vo; ne.gro; pa.la.vra; ce.dro; tri.plo; flor; blo.co; a.tle.ta; cli.en.te; glo.bo; but there are exceptions: (sub- / ab- /ad-); ex.: sub.li.ne.ar; ad.le.ga.ção; ab.le.gar; ab.rup.ção; lh, nh, ch are one separable. ex.: pa.lha; ni.nho; bo.la.cha cz, ps in the beginning of a word are not separable. ex.: cza.ri.na; czar.da; psi.ché; psi.cól.go; Other combinations are separable: ex.: op.ção; es.co.la; ad.mi.ra.dor; pac.to; pês.se.go; bair.ro; cáp.su.la; tam.bor; la.ran.ja; sim.pa.tia; en.xa.me;
